Reframing Professional Learning Infrastructure
Professional development was fragmented, episodic, and insufficiently tied to classroom realities.
We performed a Comprehensive Audit of Teaching & Learning’s Professional Development System to better align the division’s offerings. Instructional improvement was reframed as a coherent, data-anchored narrative in which concrete materials, modeled practice, and sustained focus replaced generic training. The division shifted from activity-based PD to strategically sequenced capacity building.
KEY FINDINGS
Research found that focusing PD on concrete materials is more effective than teaching general principles.
Strong teacher-student relationships can lead to higher student academic engagement, better attendance, better grades, fewer disruptive behaviors and suspensions, and lower school dropout rates.
