Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE)
We are performing a Comprehensive Audit of Teaching & Learning’s Professional Development System to better align the division’s offerings. We are charged with implementing a consistent approach to PD planning, design, and follow-up that is anchored in best practices for adult learning and informed by available data–sustaining focus on highest-priority areas of need in schools over time.
KEY FINDINGS
Research found that focusing PD on concrete materials is more effective than teaching general principles.
Strong teacher-student relationships can lead to higher student academic engagement, better attendance, better grades, fewer disruptive behaviors and suspensions, and lower school dropout rates.
