creative resistance

Educational and Interpretive Artivism Program

On Poetry and the Creative Mind Day, we celebrated the creativity intrinsic to New York City’s unsung heroes: fifteen to twenty thousand Africans buried in Lower Manhattan. Through a combination of cinema, performance, poetry and dialogue, “Creative Resistance: Movies, Music, and Memory” explores the ways that this community activated to preserve their identity along with how present-day artists use their work to educate, inspire, and uplift.

KEY FINDINGS

Evidence from neuroscience, psychology and behavioural science shows that storytelling has the power to change how people think and to influence their behaviour.

According to the National Library of Medicine, both creativity and well-being are essential to humankind.
